What's the best way to take a retainer in/out of your mouth?
I've been "clicking" it in and out with my tongue and I just read that's not good - but no where do I read how most people put theirs in or out. I'm scared to push the wire in or pull on it to take it out, in fear of it breaking....
so what's the best way?
The best answer
I found it was easier to: Put the retainer in your mouth. Slide the wire (the part connected at the back of the retainer) behind your last molar. Once in place, push the left and front sides of the wire to about halfway of your teeth. Finally, push the palate to the ceiling of your mouth. It's more important I think that the wire is placed well. Trust me. It won't break.

Using your tongue is probably fine, but there's no need to worry about breaking the wire if you use your hands. Just be careful and don't apply too much bending force.
I use my finger and pull on the wire and I think it's okay
a finger on each side of the retainer takes the stress off of it and will prevent it from breaking
